The National HVDC Centre
The National HVDC Centre is a state-of-the-art simulation and training facility in the UK, established to support all High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) schemes connecting to the Great Britain (GB) grid. Funded by Ofgem and operated by Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Plc, the Centre collaborates with network operators and manufacturers to de-risk energy projects and help maintain the security and integrity of the electricity grid.
The Centre specializes in HVDC by offering procurement support, real-time simulation studies, detailed training for engineers, and operational diagnostics. Its work enables operators to test, model, and optimize HVDC technology for integrating large-scale renewable energy sources, ensuring efficient and reliable power transmission.
