About

Sofia Wind Farm

The Sofia Wind Farm is a 1.4 gigawatt (GW) offshore wind project located on Dogger Bank in the North Sea, approximately 195 kilometers off the UK’s north east coast. Currently under construction, it is one of the largest and most advanced offshore wind farms in the world, featuring 100 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW turbines and is expected to power up to 1.2 million UK homes upon completion.

The project utilizes a single offshore converter platform and high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission technology to efficiently transport electricity generated at sea over a distance of 220 kilometers to landfall in Redcar, Teesside.
