North Sea Wind Power Hub Programme

The North Sea Wind Power Hub Programme is a collaborative initiative aiming to realize large-scale offshore wind energy in the North Sea by developing artificial energy islands, known as “Power Link” hubs, to support transnational energy integration and help achieve European climate goals. The project brings together Dutch, German, and Danish grid operators to build a cluster of offshore wind farms with interconnections between North Sea countries, targeting a significant contribution to Europe’s green transition and the Paris Climate Agreement.

The hub concept involves using advanced HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technology to convert the alternating current generated by offshore wind turbines into direct current on the artificial islands, which is then transmitted via undersea cables to the mainland, supporting efficient and flexible cross-border power exchange and system integration.
