North Sea Link
The North Sea Link (NSL) is a 720-kilometer subsea interconnector that connects the electricity systems of Great Britain and Norway, making it the world's longest subsea interconnector. Jointly operated by Statnett and National Grid, NSL allows the bi-directional transfer of up to 1,400 megawatts of electricity, supporting security of supply and enabling the exchange of renewable energy between the two countries.
North Sea Link utilizes high voltage direct current (HVDC) technology, featuring advanced converter stations at both ends to ensure stable and efficient power transfer between the grids. The HVDC system is essential to linking the UK and Norwegian grids across such a long subsea distance, enabling the reliable integration and trading of renewable energy resources.
