Conexión Kimal-Lo Aguirre

Conexión Kimal-Lo Aguirre is a company established to develop, construct, and operate Chile's first high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line, linking the Kimal substation in northern Antofagasta with Lo Aguirre near Santiago. This 1,342-kilometer project, set to begin construction in 2025 and complete by 2029, will transport up to 3,000 MW of electricity—representing about a quarter of the country's peak demand—and plays a vital role in enabling the integration of renewable energy and accelerating Chile’s decarbonization plans.

The company's core activities focus on HVDC technology, making it the first to implement such a large-scale direct current transmission system in Chile, which will significantly reduce energy losses over long distances and support the national grid with advanced converter stations and infrastructure.
