PROMOTioN was a large-scale European project focused on advancing the offshore energy sector by promoting the development of meshed offshore grids and addressing technical, regulatory, and financial barriers. The initiative involved a consortium of partners from industry and academia, working collaboratively to ensure a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable offshore electricity infrastructure for the future.

In terms of HVDC, PROMOTioN concentrated significant efforts on high voltage direct current (HVDC) technology as a key enabler for offshore grid interconnections, developing standards, testing technologies, and demonstrating innovative HVDC solutions to facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources into Europe's power grid.
