INELFE (Interconexión Eléctrica Francia-España or Electricity Interconnection France-Spain) is a joint venture company established in 2008 and equally owned by the national grid management companies of Spain and France - REE and RTE - responsible for building and activating electricity interconnections between France and Spain to increase interchange capacity between the Iberian Peninsula and the rest of Europe.
In the field of HVDC, INELFE is currently working on the electricity interconnection across the Biscay Gulf, a fundamentally submarine project between Gatika (Spain) and Cubnezais (France) that will increase exchange capacity from 2,800 to 5,000 MW, with works having begun in 2023 and completion projected for 2028.
