About

Ariadne

Ariadne Interconnection is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the IPTO Group, established in September 2018 to implement major energy infrastructure projects in Greece. The company was created specifically to construct and finance the electrical interconnection between Crete and Attica, marking the largest electricity transmission investment in Greek history and a significant move toward greater energy reliability and sustainability.

In HVDC, Ariadne is responsible for the Crete-Attica interconnection, which is among the most advanced projects in Europe, featuring two 500 kV submarine HVDC cables (1,000 MW total capacity) and state-of-the-art converter technology. This project is the first HVDC interconnection in the Mediterranean using voltage source converter (VSC) technology and is recognized as one of the most innovative and challenging subsea HVDC links globally.
