Alpiq is an internationally active energy group headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, specializing in electricity production and energy services across Europe. Established in 2009 through the merger of Atel Holding AG and EOS S.A., the company operates a diverse portfolio of power plants—including hydro, nuclear, wind, and solar—and provides energy generation, marketing, and optimization services.

Alpiq’s presence in HVDC (high-voltage direct current) is primarily related to its expertise in energy trading and cross-border electricity transport, leveraging high-voltage networks for reliable and efficient energy flows between countries. While not a pure HVDC technology developer, Alpiq is active in the management and optimization of transmission assets that may include HVDC infrastructure as part of its pan-European operations.
