The Jinguan-Guizhong HVDC project is a high-voltage direct current transmission system in China. It connects the Jinguan converter station in Hubei province to the Guizhong converter station in Guangxi province.

This HVDC link operates at a voltage of ±500 kV and has a transmission capacity of 3000 MW. The rated current of the system is 3000 A. The transmission line spans a distance of approximately 976 kilometers, allowing for long-distance bulk power transfer from hydroelectric generation in central China to load centers in the south.

The project utilizes line-commutated converter (LCC) technology, which is common for high-power HVDC systems. The converter stations employ thyristor valves.

An important technical aspect of the Jinguan-Guizhong HVDC system is its integration with other HVDC links in the region. Specifically, it shares a common electrode grounding system with the nearby Fulong converter station. This shared grounding uses a concentric double ring arrangement, with inner and outer ring radii of 240 meters and 315 meters respectively. Such a configuration helps optimize the grounding system design and reduce overall costs.

The project plays a significant role in CSG's power grid, enabling the transmission of clean hydroelectric power from generation sites to distant load centers. It enhances the stability and flexibility of the regional power system by allowing controlled power flows between asynchronous AC grids.

Optimizing the operation mode of the Jinguan-Guizhong HVDC system within the broader sending-end network has been a focus of research. This involves coordinating its operation with other HVDC links and AC transmission to maximize overall system efficiency and stability.
